World History and Geography (B)
Mr. Mason
The Goals of Social Studies:
Social Studies is the integrated study of the social sciences to prepare young people to become responsible citizens. Responsible citizens display social understanding and civic efficacy. Social understanding includes knowledge of the human condition, how it changed over time, the variations that occur in different physical environments and cultural settings, and the emerging trends that appear likely to shape the future in an interdependent world. Civic efficacy is the readiness and willingness to assume responsibilities of citizenship, knowing how, when, and where to make informed and reasoned decisions for the public good in a pluralistic, democratic society.
Curriculum:
World History and Geography takes a global and comparative approach to studying the world and its past to develop greater understanding of the development of worldwide events, processes, and interactions among the world’s people, culture, societies, and environments. The content expectations build upon the very best and most highly regarded standards, benchmarks, and courses in history or geography. The expectations are organized using both time and space to engage students in cross-temporal and cross-regional studies.
Therefore, the following areas will be covered in World History B:
The Industrial Revolution
Nationalism in Europe
The New Imperialism
World War I and the Russian Revolution
Nationalism and Revolution Around the World
The Rise of Totalitarianism
World War II and Its Aftermath
Cold War
Regional Conflicts
Grading: Your grade will be based on the point system. Points will be awarded for homework assignment, quizzes, tests, essays, and classroom participation. If you are absent you must make sure that you get the missing assignments turned in within two days of your return.
Classroom Expectations: I expect you to be respectful to your classmates. Any misbehavior will be dealt with according to the student handbook.
